History

HomeFest is a vibrant celebration of Black culture, creativity, and commerce rooted in the heart of Bayou Road—the oldest place of commerce in New Orleans.

Founded in 2013 by Community Book Center, it began as a neighborhood festival uplifting local entrepreneurs, artists, and culture bearers while connecting our community to critical resources.

In partnership with the Bayou Road Business Association, Black Bayou, and Broad Community Connections, HomeFest honors Bayou Road’s legacy as New Orleans’ Black Wall Street—a corridor built by Free People of Color and sustained through generations of resistance and entrepreneurship.

Each year, this joyful, free, all-ages festival showcases Black-owned businesses, musicians, authors, and artists. Past guests include Brass-A-Holics, Tweet, and Iyanla Vanzant. With immersive performances, storefront activations, and bold conversations, HomeFest is more than a festival—it’s a homecoming and a powerful investment in our collective future.
